Surfing Life is in Gurubebila, a small village on the south coast between Midigama and Weligama. Here’s how to get to us from the main arrival points.

Finding us

We’re about 50 metres from the turning into Gurubebila village, on Kadabaddagama Road. Tuk-tuk drivers in Weligama and Midigama know the village. If in doubt, call Eric on +94 777 401 667 and hand the phone to your driver.

From the airport

Sri Lanka’s international airport is at Katunayake, north of Colombo.

  • Private car or taxi is the easiest option, especially with surfboards. The Southern Expressway cuts a lot of time off the journey to the south coast. Allow roughly three to four hours depending on traffic and the time of day.
  • Ask us to arrange a driver. We can organise a pickup with a driver we trust. Just send us your flight details.

If you land late at night, it’s often more relaxing to spend the first night near the airport or in Colombo and come down in the morning.

From Colombo by train

The coastal railway line from Colombo Fort runs along the ocean through Galle and down to Matara. It’s one of the most beautiful train rides in the country.

  • Get off at Weligama or Midigama station, then take a short tuk-tuk to Gurubebila.
  • Trains can be very crowded, especially at weekends and holidays. Travelling with a surfboard is possible but awkward.
  • Sit on the right-hand side heading south for ocean views.

From Galle

Galle is under an hour away by road. A tuk-tuk or taxi along the coast road is easy, and you’ll pass the stilt fishermen at Koggala on the way. The coastal train also connects Galle with Weligama and Midigama.

From Mirissa or Weligama

We’re a short tuk-tuk ride from both. Weligama town is about 3 km away.

Getting around once you’re here

  • Tuk-tuks are everywhere and are the easiest way to reach the surf breaks. Agree on the fare first.
  • Scooters can be rented locally. Only ride if you’re experienced, licensed and wearing a helmet.
  • Walking: the reef breaks at Plantation and Coconut Point are right on our doorstep.

See you soon!
