Board bags are heavy, airlines are expensive and the roads in Sri Lanka are bumpy. That’s why we make it easy to surf here, whether or not you bring your own board.

Renting a board

Eric has a rack of boards for rent at the guest house, priced to be affordable for travelling surfers. You can rent by the day or for your whole stay.

  • Soft-tops for beginners and anyone learning at Weligama Bay. They float well, catch waves easily and won’t hurt if they hit you.
  • Mini-mals and fun boards for improving surfers who want something easier to turn.
  • Shortboards for experienced surfers heading to the reef breaks.

Not sure what to ride? Tell Eric your level and where you plan to surf, and he’ll match you to a board. Swapping is no problem if the waves change.

Bringing your own

If you’re travelling with your own quiver, we have secure, upright board storage. Your boards stay out of the sun, off the ground and away from passing feet. Leaving a board in a hot room or a tuk-tuk roof rack for too long is the fastest way to ruin it.

A few tips for travelling with boards in Sri Lanka:

  • Use a padded board bag for flights and long road trips.
  • Bring a little ding repair kit. Small reef dings need fixing quickly so the board doesn’t take on water.
  • Tuk-tuk drivers are used to boards. Most can strap one or two on the roof.
  • Wax for warm water. Tropical wax works best here.

Lessons and help

New to surfing? We can point you to good local instructors at Weligama’s beginner beach, about 3 km away. A few lessons on a soft-top is the fastest way to start catching waves on your own.
