There’s a rhythm to a surf day on the south coast. You’re up before sunrise and in the water while the wind is light, followed by a big breakfast. By late morning the wind has picked up, the sun is high and the waves are blown out.

Then comes the best part of the day that nobody talks about: the afternoon.

The chill-out area

Our covered chill-out area was made for this. Low, cushioned seating and bright pillows give you a place to stretch out in the shade. Nobody minds if you nod off. Wet boardshorts dry on the line, and someone is always flicking through surf photos on a laptop.

Hammocks in the garden

In the grassy garden, hammocks are strung between the trees. If there’s a better place to recover after a long session, we haven’t found it. Bring a book and a king coconut, and let the afternoon disappear.

The book shelf

Over the years, guests from all over the world have left books behind. The result is a well-stocked book swap shelf with surf stories, travel guides, novels and the odd mystery in a language nobody can read. Take one, leave one.

Games for when you’re surfed out

When the sea is flat or it’s raining, the board games and cards come out. Some rivalries last a whole season.

Why it matters

Surfing is tiring. Your shoulders need rest, your skin needs a break from the sun, and your brain needs time to replay that one perfect wave. The guests who enjoy their stay the most aren’t always the ones who surf the most. They’re the ones who’ve learned to enjoy the time in between.

Evenings

As the sun goes down, the afternoon crowd moves to the veranda and the evening surfers come back salty and hungry. There’s food and stories, and plans for tomorrow’s dawn patrol. It’s a friendly place to spend an evening in the village, whether you’re staying with us or just passing through.
